What is the release date for Zombieland 2?

The worldwide release date for Zombieland: Double Tap is Friday, October 18, 2019. This release comes just over a decade after the original film was released, and over nine years since the sequel was announced.

The screenplay writers of the original film revealed they were working on a screenplay for a sequel shortly after the release of the first movie, with Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg confirming they would return in February 2010. However, the project was then stuck in development until January 2019, when shooting finally began on the movie.

Who is in the cast of Zombieland 2?

All of the original film’s surviving zombie fighters will be back as Columbus (played by Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) all return for more. Despite his memorable death in Zombieland, Bill Murray will also be back, as revealed in the film’s red band trailer, with Indiewire reporting he will be joined by former Ghostbusters co-star Dan Akroyd.

Zombieland: Double Tap also expands the cast with a number of new love interests. Now Apocalypse’s Avan Jogia will play Berkeley, a hippie who Little Rock runs away with, while Columbus finds himself attracted to Madison, a vapid young blonde woman played by Zoey Deutch, most recently seen in Netflix’s The Politician.

According to the trailer, Zombieland 2 also mines comedy from Eisenberg and Harrelson coming across two survivors who are near doppelgangers to them, played by Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch and The Royal Tenenbaums’ Luke Wilson.

They will also be joined by Jane the Virgin’s Rosario Dawson as Nevada, a woman described in a New York Post profile of Dawson as “an Elvis-loving vigilante who drives a monster truck called Big Fat Death.” As the Zombieland: Double Tap promo features Harrelson in a Presley costume, we might assume that she is there as his love interest.

What will happen in Zombieland 2?

Sony’s official synopsis for the film reads: “A decade after Zombieland became a hit film and a cult classic, the lead cast (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone) have reunited with director Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and the original writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool) for Zombieland: Double Tap. In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.”

The White House becomes the new residence of the foursome in the sequel, as revealed in the trailer that sees them making themselves at home in the Oval Office. However, they will also be leaving Washington, D.C. to follow Little Rock as she runs away with her new boyfriend.
