The rumor comes from known leaker Zippo, who has regularly shared Nintendo information and predictions in the past and is considered a somewhat reliable source. They didn’t share any other details besides the sequel’s existence, such as a possible announcement date or title, but they are just as confused by the idea as everyone else.

Zippo describes 1-2-Switch as one of the “most dull, lifeless, forgettable games” they’ve ever played, and there probably aren’t many people willing to leap to the game’s defense. A simple mini-game collection that launched alongside the Nintendo Switch in 2017, its gimmick was that players would rarely need to look at the TV screen and instead rely on audio cues and the rumble mechanic of the Joy-Con controllers to win.
While certainly novel, the game didn’t resonate particularly well with audiences and garnered mostly average reviews. It has an average Metacritic score of 58, with even its user score only at 4.8, although it did sell decently. As of 2019, it has pushed 3.18 million units.
Aside from a generally apathetic response from audiences, it’s difficult to imagine why anyone would pick up a 1-2-Switch sequel when arguably better party games like Mario Party Superstars and WarioWare: Get It Together! are now available for the Switch. However, it’s always possible that the sequel will be enough of a substantial improvement to warrant a purchase.
As always, fans will need to wait for Nintendo to make an official announcement, which could happen very soon. A new Nintendo Direct is slated to take place on Wednesday, February 9th and the rumor was posted only four days ago. That said, there are far more exciting rumors circling the presentation, such as a new Fire Emblem and the aforementioned Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Mario Kart 9.
Speaking of, Mario Kart 9 is believed to be called Mario Kart Crossroads and will be pulling a Super Smash Bros. and including characters from other Nintendo franchises. Mario Kart 8 had a few cameos from Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda, but it’s been claimed that Mario Kart 9 will have characters from Star Fox, Pikmin, and ARMS. Other games expected to make an appearance at the Direct include Kirby and the Forgotten Land and the Advance Wars remakes.
1-2-Switch is available now for Nintendo Switch.
